A UK digital passport photo must be clear, recent and taken against a plain, light-coloured background. The image must show your head, shoulders and upper body while you look directly at the camera.

 

UK Digital Passport Photo Requirements

Your UK passport photo for an online application must:

  • Be at least 600 pixels wide and 750 pixels high

  • Have a file size between 50 KB and 10 MB

  • Be a clear colour photograph

  • Have been taken within the last month

  • Show a plain expression with your mouth closed

  • Show both eyes clearly

  • Have no shadows, glare or red eye

  • Include no other people or objects

UK Passport Photo Size

For an online UK passport application, the minimum digital passport photo size is 600 × 750 pixels.

The 35 × 45 mm passport photo size applies to printed UK passport photos used with paper applications. You do not need a printed photo when applying online.

Glasses and Head Coverings

Remove glasses where possible. When glasses must be worn, make sure there is no glare and that the frames do not cover your eyes.

Hats and fashion headwear are not allowed. Religious or medical head coverings are permitted when the full face remains visible.

UK Passport Photos for Babies and Children

Children must appear alone in the photograph.

Children under six do not have to look directly at the camera or keep a neutral expression. Babies under one do not need to have their eyes open.

Toys, dummies, supporting hands and other people must not be visible.

How to Print Passport Photos Using Color Printer

  1. Download the 4R sheet with multiple photos.
  2. Check the requirements and use correct 4R photographic paper (matte, semi-matt or glossy paper).
  3. Print the 4R sheet with no margins. Make sure the 4R picture fit exactly on the 4R photo paper.
  4. Cut the 4R sheet along the gray lines and you will get multiple photos.

Steps to create passport photos
